We know it’s been a while since we checked in, but the winter break on the
racing calendar gave us the perfect chance to work hard on the cars and fine-tune our plans for the rest of the year.
After the Knysna Simola Hillclimb, our race transporter headed back to
Lindenberg Racing’s workshop in Malmesbury for routine checks and maintenance on the classic cars. Remia goes through each of the race cars with a fine-tooth comb, checking for wear and tear and looking for possible improvements in cooling, handling, and speed.
At this point in the season, we rely heavily on our partnerships with industry- leading brands like Castrol for our oil, Sabat for our batteries, Herschell for our sprays and lubricants, Lens Motors for bodywork repairs, PG Glass for windscreen replacements, SKF for all our bearing and component needs, and VaalMac/Westacor for the engineering required.
Paige’s Ford Fairlane had a scheduled engine rebuild to ensure it runs
smoothly for the upcoming races and puts her in a strong position for the
championship. Djurk Venter’s Ford Escort had a misfire that needed to be resolved, and the Capri Perana driven by James Temple received a much-
needed brake cooling system upgrade. With the rules and regulations being extremely strict in Historic Car racing, we are limited to period-correct components and improvements — making it a challenging and creative job to go faster and be more reliable.
The cars are nearing completion and will soon be locked and loaded to head back to Gauteng for our next round of the championship at Zwartkops Raceway on 8 & 9 August.
We are also proud to announce the addition of a new driver joining the team from this event: Alistair Simpson from George. He has great experience in both circuit and oval racing, and we look forward to having him as part of Lindenberg Racing.
Behind the scenes, plans are well underway for our exhibition at the biggest automotive event in the country — the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit at the end of August. Shelby and Lindenberg Racing will be situated in the pit access road, with trackside hospitality, merchandise sales, partner activations, and a 10-car Shelby Speed Challenge team pitted in amongst all the action.
